November 2018

This weekend marks exactly 12 months since our official opening .

Wow. What a 12 months it has been !

From at fledgeling idea Paul, Jane and Miles Green opened a little cycle friendly coffee shop in a very rural location. From that acorn Caffe Velo Verde has grown into something that so many people have been coming to …… We value that enormously.

We have met some fabulous customers and made some wonderful new friends . At times it gets very intense (!) But we love doing what we do for people that appreciate it and ‘get’ what we are doing .

Put simply with no previous catering or hospitality experience we just wanted to create the place we want to go to ourselves . Simple , friendly , quality food and great coffee, but with smiles and friendliness .

We wanted to be comfortable and relaxed for cyclists ( we really don’t mind when you arrive sweaty or wet and muddy ) and we wanted to be able to chat and talk bikes with you . We wanted to be chilled and comfortable for non cyclists too …. A coffee shop for everyone . And you seem to like it which makes us super happy .

We have found some amazing and lovely staff and helpers who have supported us in quiet times and worked their socks off when there is a queue to even get in the door and at the end of service it’s high fives and hugs that we got through it generally quickly and efficiently …. ( Sorry if we miss the occasional ticket when it’s full on !)

There are too many to list and thank individually so I’m bound to miss some people but we especially want to thank David and Jill Rose , Andy Hardy, Toria Hardy, Katie Honey , Claudia Lister, Sophie Marshall, Sam Martin, Jess and Kirsten Tagg, Emma Redgate , Henry and Sarah Gould , Josh Honey , Steve Clarke and Donna Bee , Ceri Anne Joseph , Colin and two June’s , Rob Wilson, Adam Hartshone , Gavin Dow and well…. Just so many others that have played a part including our growing number of (international ) clothing models .

Above all we want to thank YOU ….. The riders, cycle clubs and customers who have visited us so regularly, supported us and helped us to achieve #1 TripAdvisor ranking and a nomination for Cyclist Cafe of the Year .

Keep riding . Keep eating legendary bacon rolls. Keep eating cake and keep drinking coffee.

Much Love

We get all sorts at Caffè Velo Verde

No two weekends are the same really …… we get so many people through the coffee shop – we only wish we had the time to have a proper chat with everyone!

Over the last few weekends we have had some unusual visitors though!

Sammy the parrot came in sitting on his owner’s shoulder recently. Sammy is an incredible 52 years old and after studying his surroundings was sitting quite happily chirping away in parrotspeak.

He seemed to quite like our Granolajack -which is no surprise as we all do.

We had a private hire event recently on a Monday ….. and on the Sunday previous a smartly dressed guy arrived wearing a blue shirt and tie. He was very hot and drank a few glasses of water before starting to tell us in his German accent that he had just arrived having set off from Germany hitch hiking the day before! He had remarkably done the journey in a day. He doesn’t own a car and regularly makes such journeys across Europe attending environmental events whilst minimising his carbon footprint!

Red Bull sponsor many sporting events and adrenalin sportspeople. Local Red Bull athlete Nathan Watson called in whilst on a training ride recently with a friend. Nathan is a world ranked motorcycle Enduro rider and lives locally when he is not travelling the world competing in the KTM factory team with the support of Red Bull. Nathan’s carbon footprint may just be a bit higher than our German visitor!

We also get a massive range of cycles and even stand up ElliptiGo machines, but one type of machine that we hadn’t actually seen before in the flesh was this slightly half and half recumbent tandem! A couple were riding by and called into see us. They have ridden across Europe touring on this fabulous machine before and it certainly caused a few looks whilst it was at the coffee shop …….

So overall yes….. we have a lot of visitors on foot, car and, of course, cycle……. but sometimes we just can’t predict who is going to turn up !

Megmeister Summer baselayers with a special CVV discount!

Our tame model ‘Johan’ in the coffee shop is now wearing the fabulous white summer base layer from our friends at Megmeister……  and pretty cool he is looking too.

The Drynamo short sleeve is designed for high tempo riding in hot climates and like the whole range features incredibly light weight and excellent wicking to move moisture away from the body and mesh sections for ventilation.

We love these cycle specific base layers – and they are just as valuable when the sun is out !

The guys at Megmeister had a simple mission: to create the best possible base layers for men and women! We wanted to be the best in 3 key areas: better fit, function and comfort.

We think they smashed it !

Help Joe Porter and Support Teenage Cancer Trust

Joe Porter has beaten cancer and is now going to be riding to Paris to raise money for the Teenage Cancer Trust – an organisation close to his heart.

In Joe’s words…

In late 2017 I got the scare of my life. I got diagnosed and had testicular cancer! I got the all clear in February 2018 THANK GOODNESS!. I am having to have regular check ups now for the next 5 years. But now I’m ready for my next challenge. Cycling from London to Paris! This will be the ultimate challenge for myself but I AM READY!

Many people my age (mid 20s) are more commonly diagnosed with this cancer but the survive rate is high if caught earlier enough!

I will be part of the incredible inspiring bunch of people also known as TEAM TELEPERFORMANCE !! You guys are amazing. LETS DO THIS

With your donations you can help support me in giving back so much to an amazing charity. You don’t have to donate a lot! 🙂

So please take a minute to support Joe’s efforts for this great cause and continue to raise awareness

Open Farm Sunday – June 10th 2018

This Sunday June 10th at the Eco Farm is Open Farm Sunday – the national event welcoming visitors to farms.

There will be lots to see around the farm but we wanted to let you know that with up to 1000 people expected on the day we will only be offering a very limited menu with none of the normal hot foods.

If you were thinking of coming this weekend please bear in mind we are likely to be full to bursting pretty much all day with farm visitors and families, and there will be limited cycle space

We regret that we are unable to accommodate groups this Sunday due to the sheer volume of people who will be around on the farm 😮😮😮

😪😪😯Normal service will be resumed next weekend!

See you soon!
